About Storyville Preschool

NAEYC accreditation

Storyville Preschool is accredited by NAEYC, the National Association of Education of Young Children. Only the best of the best preschools are accredited. Accreditation is a voluntary process that many schools choose not to pursue due to the fact that it requires an overwhelming commitment to ensure all NAEYC criteria are fully met. Storyville aspires to the highest standards and will continue to maintain the standards required by NAEYC.


Field Trips

Storyville children have many opportunities for exciting field trips. We have ventured to several museums, the Aquarium, Fenway Park, indoor and outdoor playgrounds, and zoos, just to mention a few. We also offer swim lessons each summer through the Newton YMCA. Every fall we go apple picking at Honey Pot Hill in Stow, which is a big favorite with parent chaperones. All Storyville children are welcome to attend the field trips and transportation is provided by a local bus company. Storyville does not use any bus that does not have seat belts.


Special Events

Every month that we do not go on a trip, Storyville children are treated to special events. Storyville shows have included puppet shows, animal shows, magic shows, interactive dinosaur digs, hands-on science experiments, and clown performances. In addition, Big Joe, the storyteller, entertains our children every month. Storyville children also enjoy music and yoga classes on a bi-monthly basis, and Spanish lessons each week. All of these specials and shows are available to all Storyville children at no additional cost to parents.


Parent Involvement

Storyville Preschool is a family oriented program, and our door is always open to our parents. Parents are invited to read to children, share holiday or family traditions, chaperone field trips, or just to relax and spend time in their child’s classroom. Parent suggestions are given the utmost consideration by the program Director and are implemented whenever possible. The Storyville administrative team are also parents, so we understand how important it is to be an active part of your child’s education.


Community Involvement

Storyville Preschool is a member of the Tri-Community Partnership program, which gives us access to workshops, classes and community activities. We accept vouchers and scholarships and we work closely with Second Step, a women’s shelter. Storyville gives priority to children in need and is extremely sensitive to families who are experiencing difficult times. Each year Storyville raises money for various charities such as Muscular Dystrophy and St. Jude’s Hospital. Storyville also annually sponsors a holiday gift drive for families in need through the Department of Social Services. Storyville parents and staff strive to meet the needs of local families by fulfilling their holiday wish lists.


Our facility

The first thing people notice when they enter Storyville is how bright, cheerful, clean and spacious it is. While many schools have to make the most out of dark, depressing spaces, Storyville was built specifically to be a preschool and every feature is designed with the young child in mind. Each classroom has an equally large well equipped room well equipped to meet an active child’s needs. In addition to our four large classrooms, we have a Science Discovery room that is equipped with hands-on activities. Storyville has a front and back playground and is within walking distance to local parks. A child’s first school should always be remembered as a happy place where confidence and knowledge can thrive. Storyville provides the perfect setting for a child’s imagination and intellect to flourish.
